A Message from My Heart to Yours
To the Youth of Liberia—The Unstoppable Generation
From Joseph Karfiah Davies, Author of
The Unstoppable Generation: The Liberian Youth and the Rebirth of a Nation – From Scarcity to Strength: Stories of Resilience
Dear Young People of Liberia,
I speak to you today not as an observer, nor merely as an author—but as a fellow Liberian whose spirit is deeply entwined with yours. I speak to you not from a podium, but from a place of shared experience, of silent prayers, of sleepless nights, and of unwavering hope. My heart beats with you—through the struggles we’ve endured, the dreams we’ve dared, and the future we are determined to shape together.
This book—The Unstoppable Generation—was not written from imagination. It was born from your lived realities. It is a reflection of your stories, your sacrifices, and your strength. Every page is infused with your passion and your perseverance.
Why This Book Matters
Liberia has walked through fire. We have faced civil war, economic hardship, corruption, and neglect. Many of you have grown up in environments where promises were broken, schools lacked chairs and chalk, and roads led to dead ends—literally and figuratively.
And yet, in the middle of all this, you refused to give up.
You kept learning—some of you under mango trees, by candlelight, and in overcrowded classrooms.
You kept creating—starting businesses with borrowed phones and street corners as offices.
You kept serving—organizing youth forums, teaching children in slums, and volunteering in clinics and churches.
You kept dreaming—even when society told you not to.
You, the youth of Liberia, have been both the backbone and the heartbeat of this nation—carrying the weight of yesterday while building the possibility of tomorrow.
A Mirror, A Map, A Message
This book is three things:
A Mirror – to help you see the unstoppable force that you already are. When you look into this book, I want you to recognize yourself: not just your struggle, but your strength; not just your trials, but your transformation.
A Map – guiding you through the fog of doubt, showing you that others before you have walked through the wilderness of despair and emerged into purpose. Like Joshua, a youth from Kakata who started a recycling business that employs 15 young people. Or Hawa, who returned to her village after university to start a literacy initiative that has reached over 300 children.
A Message – echoing across generations: You are not Liberia’s problem. You are Liberia’s potential.
A Call to Rise—Now, Not Later
We can no longer wait for change to come from above or outside. Liberia’s future does not rest in the hands of politicians or foreign donors—it rests in the minds, hands, and hearts of its youth. In you.
This is a call to rise:
Rise as entrepreneurs, using innovation to tackle unemployment and create value from local resources.
Rise as educators, mentors, and coaches, planting seeds of wisdom in children who are looking for direction.
Rise as leaders, who serve with integrity, and lead by example—not through position, but through purpose.
Rise as creatives—telling our stories through music, art, film, and literature that redefine what it means to be Liberian.
A Revolution of Thought, Purpose, and Action
Let this book not end with its final chapter. Let it begin something new in you.
Let it ignite conversations in classrooms and marketplaces.
Let it inspire movements—in counties and communities.
Let it reshape mindsets—from scarcity to innovation, from dependency to dignity.
Read it with boldness. Share it with conviction. Live it with purpose.
Become the message. Be the movement.
You Are the Unstoppable Generation
I wrote this book with every breath of belief in your future. You are not the afterthought of history—you are the authors of our next chapter. You are not victims—you are visionaries. Not spectators—but solution-builders.
You are the rising sun after a long night.
You are the rebuilding hands of a broken house.
You are the answer to the question Liberia has been asking for generations.
With deepest respect, unwavering faith, and pride in your brilliance,
Joseph Karfiah Davies
